The Avenue Dog Walking Group has been so popular there is now a second one. This group also meets every Monday, but begins at the Nova Plaza (89 Street & 118 Avenue) at 7:30 and heads west to 95 Street. The group then crosses 118th Avenue and heads east to 83 Street. They cross the Avenue once more and return to the Nova Plaza.
The pressure of everyone’s hard work on the Cromdale is having an impact. CRUD members and community residents have been requested to provide a second round of letters or emails to Councillor Ed Gibbons so the city can demonstrate the community need for a Municipal Government Act (MGA) order to demolish the building.
Our letters and emails must be positive and include why you think the Cromdale should be demolished (ie. criminal activity, graffiti, bylaw nuisance, etc.). If the letters are negative and say the city should have done something sooner, they will not be used. Please focus your letter on the building itself and why is should be demolished.
Write again, even if you have written before. Your voice is being heard and we must speak up. We’ve included a sample letter to help get you going, but please do not copy it as it is very important that each letter be individual and in the voice of the writer.
Thanks to everyone for your continued support in this fight.

*Park Crawls will resume (weather permitting) in May 2010
After the success of last weekend’s family park crawl we’ve decided to
hold another one, this time on Mother’s Day, this Sunday.
CRUD has booked part of the Parkdale/Cromdale Community League (13335 85th
street). We will bring our BBQs over and get a liquor license (so mom can
have a champagne!) The kids can play in the park, dads can bbq what they
bring and mom can sit back and relax and be waited on by her family. This
event will be an afternoon and evening social event, beginning at 3 pm.
The only expense is what you want to bring (eat, drink, plates etc.) We
will supply the venue and barbecues.
If you’re planning on coming just drop us a line through an email at info@crudedmonton.org.
This promises to be a really fun event and we hope to see you out!
Take back Alberta Avenue with Community Response to Urban Disorder (CRUD). Join us from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm at the Alberta Avenue Community Centre, 9210-118 Avenue.
Taking back our community
Avenue Takeovers invite community members to reclaim public space and promote a healthy community through a unified presence. This show of strength disrupts illegal activity such as drug sales, graffiti and prostitution.
All are welcome
To help celebrate spring participants are invited to tidy up the neighbourhood as they walk in groups along the Avenue. Garbage bags and plastic gloves will be on hand for those who want to pick up trash and help clean-up the Ave.
As many of you know CRUD, and you, our volunteers, have been working to do something positive with the Cromdale Hotel on 118th Avenue. The derelict and abandoned hotel is a haven for criminal activity and an eyesore in our community.
Now it’s time for your help. CRUD needs you to write to our city councillors, the mayor, our MLA, MP, fire inspectors, the police, bylaw, and the owner of the Cromdale Hotel to let them know how the building makes you feel unsafe and degrades our neighbourhood. Together, we can raise a big stink about the Cromdale and the detrimental effect it’s having on our community.
CRUD has already written to the owner of the Cromdale, Terry Nyquvest, to ask him what he intends to do with the building. We politely asked Mr.Nyquvest to reply to our letter by today, March 25th. As he hasn’t, it’s now time to kick our letter-writing campaign into action.
We hope you share our concerns about the Cromdale Hotel. Please read the following attachments.
We’ve included a sample letter and a list of contacts with email and postal addresses. Please work on this letter and send it by the end of March, either by email, fax or through snail mail.
Following the letter writing campaign we would like to stage a peaceful demonstration. We will keep you posted on when and where, but tentatively mark April 18th on your calendars.
Thanks again for your interest in keeping our neighbourhood safe and helping keep it a great place to live and work. If you have any questions please contact us at info@crudedmonton.org or 780.996.4728.
CRUD (Community Response to Urban Disorder) will be holding another Avenue Takeover this Sunday, March 29th at the Alberta Avenue Community Centre, 9210-118th Avenue.
We hope to see you there. Together we can make a difference in our community.

We wanted to let you know about a street march happening in our community this Friday night. It’s called Take Back the Night and it’s an annual event held to help end violence against women and reclaim the safety of our streets. This year, it will begin on 118th Avenue at the AB Avenue Community Centre. See the attached poster for more details.
The Avenue Dog Walking Group meets every Monday evening. For those who live towards the east end of 118th Avenue they will meet at 6:30pm near the steps of St Alphonsus Church (11828 – 85 St). The group will then walk west along 118th Avenue until they meet up with those who live toward the west end of the Avenue at The Carrot (9210 -118 Ave) at 6:45pm. Everyone is welcome to join in along the way.
