Local Community Organization Recognizes Nice Neighbours

January 19th, 2010

CRUD is excited to announce its newest initiative; the Nice Neighbour Recognition Awards. Once a month, starting in January 2010, a community member in north-central Edmonton who has helped their neighbours or contributed to their neighbourhood in a special way (large or small) will be personally acknowledged for their efforts.

Active and involved community members are the foundation for a strong and health community. Frequently, many people participate in their communities in a variety of positive ways. CRUD intends to celebrate their efforts through the Nice Neighbour Recognition Awards. The purpose of this program is to recognize the wonderful and often over looked day-to-day contributions residents make in their neighbourhood.

The order issued by the City of Edmonton is for Demolition only.  That means that the only option is for the owner to demolish the building.  Of course, this order is subject to appeal which is happening on December 03, 2009.

Cromdale Update – Nov 9

November 9th, 2009

Due to routine follow ups on the Cromdale hotel, CRUD has just received word that a order under sec. 546 of the MGA was issued to the owner of the Cromdale Hotel in late October. This order is a very positive and notable step which we are all thrilled to hear about.

This order has been appealed, by the owner of the hotel, and will be before the Quasi-Judicial Appeal Committee at the Council Chambers on 2009 December 03 from 9:30 am – 12:00 pm. It is very important for community members to attend this hearing on December 03 and show support for the order.

By-law was not able to specify the details of the order, but stated it is important for the community.

My experience tells me that 546 MGA orders include any number of remedies to nuisance properties, up to and including demolition.

Stay in touch with CRUD for further details, they will be released as they come available.

Thanks everybody for your continued support on this serious community issue.

Participation Needed

July 10th, 2009

Participation is needed in the next step to deal with the Cromdale Hotel

As we all know the Cromdale hotel has caused problems in the community for a very long time.  There have been many people fighting to get this building closed and now demolished.  The City administration is willing to start a through investigation which includes gathering information from all sources.  One of the most important sources is the people of the community.  We need to share our concerns about the building so the city can determine if the Cromdale meets the threshold needed to take the next step. Please take the time to print off and fill out a Witness Statement Form and get it in the mail as soon as possible.  Instructions for completing a Witness Statement Form and type of information required should be followed.  The form needs to be submitted to Bylaw so they can start their investigation.  It is important to have as many people as possible fill out the forms so please distribute to anyone that you can think of.
