This exciting premiere is more than just a screening! General admission is $10, $8 Students/Seniors, and $6 Children 13 and under at the door.

There will be a live musical performance from the local band Where’s Lula? and complimentary food from Battista’s Calzone Company starting at 6:40PM. A cash bar will also be available serving wine and beer, which you can take into the theatre. Following the film will be a Q&A with Director Jaimie Clements, C.R.U.D Founder Chris Hayduk and Arts on the Ave Founder Christy Morin.

About ‘The Avenue’: For years 118th Avenue has been synonymous with crime, drugs and prostitution. But now that image is changing. The Avenue exposes the heart of the people residing around 118th Avenue as they fight to reclaim their neighbourhood through grassroots initiatives, leaving their community stronger in their wake. This timely documentary follows the Community’s struggle to have the infamous Cromdale Hotel demolished and shines a light on the growing arts emergence which is turning 118th Avenue into an arts destination.

The Avenue is a poignant film showcasing the power people have when they come together for change and serves as a reminder of the human need to connect and develop a strong community spirit.

Community is the reason that this hotel is finally being demolished and we want to have a party to celebrate the new phase of the revitalization. Join everybody involved on Sunday, September 16th from 1-5 pm. I look forward to seeing you all there.

Community members and groups have working on the Cromdale hotel as an issue for years. The hotel was closed in 2004 and continued to be a problem  for years to come. CRUD decided to reinvigorate the fight and encourage community members and groups to write letters to civic leaders, officials, and people with the ability to help us deal with this issue. The city responded and launched an investigation. CRUD hosted sessions where people would be able to meet with bylaw officials and discuss the laws and write witness statements if applicable. After numerous city council meetings the demolition order was upheld. This continued onto court and was delayed several time. Finally the land was sold to Shopper Drug Mart and the appeal was abandoned. The demolition was finally set.

The entire community came together and worked hard and had a great result. This outcome truly speaks to the power of community and what we can accomplish together. Congratulations to all of you. Thanks for participating.
