Community Gatherings

By admin

Community Gatherings are an initiative which invites concerned community members to reclaim public space along 118 Avenue and promote a healthy community through a unified presence.  This show of strength disrupts illegal activity such as drug sales, graffiti and prostitution.  It sends a strong message that the north-central communities of Edmonton are not willing to turn a blind eye to criminal activities.

Everyone is welcome to take part in Community Gatherings.  Participants gather in groups along street corners, or walk together around pre-set routes.  Some choose to sit in chairs and do activities such as knitting, painting, or board games.  Some choose to stand and meet their neighbours, chat with friends or to passersby.  There is no right or wrong way to reclaim streets; as long as it is friendly and non-confrontational.

The Community Response to Urban Disorder is not a vigilante group, not exclusive, and not judgmental. CRUD members want the north-central communities to be a safe, crime-free place where everyone feels comfortable to be. Community Gatherings are peaceful events.  If questionable activity is observed, notes are taken and information is passed onto the police.  If something is causing harm to another person, members act as any concerned citizen should.  CRUD participants are always in groups and help to ensure the safety of others.

Community Gatherings are held at various times, days, and places around the 118 Avenue area. If you are interested in getting involved in your community and taking a stand against disorder and illegal activity in your neighbourhood.  Please join us at any of our initiatives or contact us at info@crudedmonton.org to see how you can become involved.
